Sujit Raman, President - Sujit is an Associate at Hogan & Hartson LLP. His practice focuses on the defense of individuals and companies regarding white collar criminal investigations and prosecutions. Sujit grew up in Texas and attended Harvard College, where he captained the varsity rowing team and majored in history. After pursuing graduate studies in Britain as a Marshall Scholar, he enrolled at Harvard Law School. There, he served as  Co-President of the South Asian Law Students Association and won the Ames Moot Court Competition. Sujit is a member of the New York State Bar and the District of Columbia.

George Wu, Vice-President - George is a staff attorney in the Immigration & Immigrant Rights Program of the Asian American Justice Center (AAJC), George C. Wu is the recipient of the 2006 NAPABA Partners Community Law Fellowship. Mr. Wu is a recent graduate of the George Washington University Law School, where he received the Justice Thurgood Marshall Civil Liberties Award for outstanding performance in the field of civil rights and civil liberties. In 2004, he was recognized as an AEF Fellow for his work with the Affirmative Action Program of AAJC and also received the NAPABA Law Foundation Anheuser-Busch Presidential Scholarship.  A graduate of Johns Hopkins University, George has served on the Board of Directors of the Asian Pacific American Legal Resource Center (APALRC) in Washington, D.C. and Equal Justice Works (EJW), which funds more than 100 legal fellowships each year. In law school, Mr. Wu was president of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association, vice president of the Equal Justice Foundation, and chair of the faculty-student Public Interest Committee.

 
 

Taron Murakami, Secretary - Taron is an associate in the Northern Virginia office of DLA Piper US LLP.  She counsels clients on all aspects of employment law and represents employers in litigation matters.  Taron is a graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center where she was active in the Family Advocacy Clinic, the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association, and the Georgetown Journal of Gender and the Law.  She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in American Studies and Political Science.

 

Angela Duong, Treasurer - Angela is a trademark examining attorney at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Prior to joining the federal government, Angela worked at a boutique law firm specializing in the investigation of cybercriminals.  Angela grew up in the Philippines and attended the University of Virginia, where she helped establish a course dedicated to Asian American culture. During law school, Angela co-founded The Modern American, a publication dedicated to a discussion of diversity and the law.  She graduated from the Washington College of Law in 2005.  Angela is a member of the Virginia and D.C. bar.
 

Peter Ohr, Director - Peter is a Deputy Assistant General Counsel for the National Labor Relations Board in the Division of Operations-Management. In his current position, Peter assists the General Counsel direct the work of the 32 regional offices throughout the United States. He is a former Bar Examiner for the State of Hawaii and an ABA Government Fellow. Peter served as AEF President in 2006-2007.

Phong Nguyen, Director - Phong is a  Partner in the Washington, DC office of Baker & Hostetler, LLP. He focuses his practice on all aspects of intellectual property law. He is active in PCT patent practice, patent infringement, patent prosecution appeals, patentability opinions and searches, patent validity and clearance opinions, due diligence, and patent litigation.  Phong is a former Assistant  City Attorney for the City of San Antonio, where he assisted the City in protecting its intellectual property and was involved with the City's litigation matters.  He is an active participant in the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. He is also an active speaker in the National Youth Leadership  Forum Law Section.

Betty Chia, Director - Betty is a Los Angeles native who received her undergraduate and graduate degrees at UCLA and UCLA Law. Ms. Chia has served three terms on the board of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Los Angeles (APABA) and was the youngest board member of the ACLU of Los Angeles. As a law student Ms. Chia served as a law fellow for the Asian Pacific American Legal Center (APALC), as the Alumni Chair for the Asian Pacific American Law Student Association (APALSA), and as a Comments Editor for the Asian Pacific American Law Journal (APALJ).

Vasu B. Muthyala, Director - Vasu is an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia. Prior to moving to D.C., he was a staff attorney with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Division of Enforcement in Chicago Illinois. Vasu grew up in Southern
California.

May Lee, Director - May C. Lee is an Assistant General Counsel for MLF LexServ, a life insurance portfolio service company. She advises the company on issues concerning legal rights, obligations and privileges that relate to its managment and its field of operation. Prior to joining MLF LexServ, she was Managing Transactional Attorney for Maple Life Financial Inc. May has been active with APABA-DC’s Practicing Attorneys Resource Program (Co-Chair, 2006-2007; Chair, 2005-2006); the DC Bar Corporations, Finance and Securities Law Section Young Lawyers Committee (Vice Chair, 2006-2007); the DC Bar Membership Committee (Member, 2004-Present); and the Washington Metropolitan Chapter of Certified Fraud Examiners (Secretary, 2004-2006).  She received her J.D. from Hamline University School of Law and B.S. from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.
